GET TO KNOW OUR OFFICERS

BEN NIENABER
📌Get to know our Director – 🔥Ben Nienaber🔥Captain of the HOG Jacaranda ship🧔🏼‍♂️👮🏼‍♂️
Ben rides an Ultra-Limited 115th Anniversary Edition (#1150/3700 – talk about rare metal 😎).
He’s been part of HOG Jacaranda for 6 years, served as Secretary, and now leads as our Director (re-elected for another term – so no escape for him just yet 😉).
His first bikes were a tiny HONDA CB 50 (1974) and a HONDA 250XL – but don’t be fooled, he later raced endurance events like the Baberspan 500 and Brits 200!
🏍️Dream rides: Touring Europe & Australia🌍
😂 Funniest moment: Thinking he is a mechanic and trying to fix his own bike… eventually giving up phoning a real mechanic. 💥 Once a chunk of coal fell off a truck, smacked his helmet, and bounced off… sounded like thunder in surround sound inside his head! ( And if I am not mistaken he has dropped his bike twice at the Hardley Dangerous games😂)
🐎 Riding style: Like an American Quarter Horse🫏🐎
⛽ Biggest fear: Running out of petrol (because walking🏃🏻‍♂️ is NOT part of the plan)
🏍️ Bike name: “Friend”
✨ Dream bike: Any old classic with a sidecar
When he’s not riding, he’s into classic cars. He is currently the proud owner of a Jaguar XKR 5 liter V8 Supercharged Convertable. 🚗
His vision? 👀To be creating inclusive family on two wheels where HOG Jacaranda members feel a true sense of belonging and purpose. To build a foundation of respect and good governance that insures a welcoming environment to all members. #GetToKnow
RIAAN PALMER
🎭 📣‼️Get to Know:Riaan Palmer‼️
Assistant Director – Activities🎬🎭
Riaan has been part of the Jacaranda Chapter since 2023, and for him it’s all about the people – more family than just Sunday riders. 💜🏍️
He started riding at 17 on a Suzuki GSX-R1100, but his first bike was a Harley Sportster 1200 XL Superlow… yes, the “Superlow” …..on a tall guy like him. Comedy writes itself. 😅🤣
👉 Biggest biking lesson? Looks can be deceiving!🤔Patience, relentless focus, and always observing. ( Has he mentioned observing? Just for incase you missed it: Keep on observing‼️)
👉 Proudest moment? Cornering without screaming on the inside. Progress!🙌🏻👏🏻
👉 Riding ritual? His trusty gremlin bell 🔔 and the rule: never say “goodbye” – it’s always “be safe” or “see you.”💬
👉 Playlist essentials? 🎼🎧Narcotic, Seven Nation Army, Freaks, Black Betty, and Fire Water Burn – because without them, it’s not a road trip, it’s just driving. 🎶
👉 Dream costume ride? Pennywise. Because scaring motorists is part of the fun.🤡👻
👉 Bike name? The majestic Blooregard Q. Kazoo Sparklepants II (aka “Bloo”in casual company).
He hasn’t dropped his bike at SRTS… but he did nearly run over Ben by looking straight at him instead of the road. (For incase someone forgot the # 1 Rule on a bike: look where you want to go not where you riding🤣)
And his funniest fail? Stalling over and over and over again in peak traffic. Eventually had to push it aside while a parade of very unhappy commuters went past. 🚖🚘 . Checking if the sparkplug was fitted correctly( not actually knowing where the is- he had to try though🤣) Only to realise he was trying to take off in second gear. First gear was just sitting there, laughing. 🤣😂🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️
STEVEN GODFREY
🚦 Meet Steven Godfrey (aka Stevie-G) – Our Chapter Secretary & sometimes “The Enforcer” 🚦
📋 Stevie-G is the man behind the smooth running of Jacaranda admin. As Secretary, he keeps the paperwork, databases and dealer liaison in check – so the rest of us can focus on riding and having a blast.
🏍 He joined in early 2022 after his first ride with the Chapter in December 2021. From day one, he felt right at home – especially when he sat across from Corrie at lunch, staring at all the pins on his Cut and realizing he’d met someone who had actually been to Sturgis! That feeling of belonging hasn’t changed since.
🔥 A self-confessed “late starter,” Steven only got his license at 56 in 2018. His bike journey began with an 883 Sporty (short-lived), then a Dyna Street Bob (the one that got away), and now his beloved Road King – Black Betty – black and bold‼️🏍️🏍️
😂 Funniest moment? 💨🔥
On the way to the Route 62 Rally, his stator and regulator burned out and was fixed on route. At the tollgate, he opened his visor while waiting and he was engulfed in a cloud of smoke. Almost having a heartfailure cause first thought is the stator burnt out again… only to find out it was Di, his pillion, sneaking a puff on her vape behind him!🚬🚭
🌊 If he wasn’t a biker, Steven would still be chasing the water. Living in Durban for 25 years, he and his sons paddled the Duzi rivers, switched to surf-ski’ s and then to sailing on a Hobie 16. He says one day he’d love to ride his Harley down to a marina and jump on a sailboat again.⛵️🚣🛶
🎵 Life’s theme music? He’s stuck in the 70s, bouncing between rock and disco. If he had to pick just one track, ZZ Top’s La Grange would be his road trip anthem.🎶🎼
☀️ Sunrise or Sunset? Definitely sunrise – because by sunset, it’s party time!🍔🍷🕺
🌍 Bucket list rides include : a coastal trip here in SA, Route 66 and Sturgis in the USA, and the Route des Grandes Alpes in Europe.
✨ If Stevie-G could invite a celeb for a ride?
He’s torn between Clint Eastwood and Freddie Mercury… tough choice between two icons who are so similar, right? 😜
💡 Pro tip from Stevie-G: never leave home without a rainsuit. (Trust him, you don’t want to learn that lesson the hard way!)☔️💧🌧️
MARY SCHOEMAN
💥 🏍️Get to Know: Mary Schoeman 💥🏍️
Head Road Captain (HRC)💪🏻
Mary has been part of the H.O.G. family since 2006, and took to marshalling in 2013 before working her way up to Head Road Captain for the Jacaranda Chapter. She proudly leads and looks after the marshal core — keeping rides smooth, safe and in line!🏍️🚧⚠️
She started riding back in 2005, and her biggest early challenge was gravel roads — which she now handles like a pro. Her current ride is a Softail CVO Convertible, a limited edition beauty that doesn’t need a name to turn heads. For Mary, it’s all about the Harley camaraderie — no matter where in the world you go, Harley riders always find each other.🏍️
If her bike had a personality? Definitely sassy and fiery — but best handled with respect!🔥
☕ Coffee? Before, after and even during a ride — because according to Mary, “nothing beats a good cup of coffee.”☕️
🚦When it comes to managing a ride, traffic is tougher than the bikers🚖🚙🚗( though the guys do enjoy giving her a hard time 🤣).
🌎Her dream ride would be through the mountain passes ⛰️of Switzerland, and she loves long scenic routes ☘️🌿🌴— even if the road conditions sometimes test her patience.
Mary admits she’s handed out “the look 👀and the nod” before – to Di during a U-turn detour on the way to Friendship Rally. (Yes, even the best miss a turn now and then! 😅)
📍Has anyone ever underestimated her because she’s a lady rider? 👧🏼Big mistake. She simply does better and lets her skills do the talking.
🌞🌥️A proud early bird, Mary loves sunrise rides, especially the Sunrise Monsters when the world is still waking up.⛅️☀️
And if she could swap roles with anyone on EXCO for a day? “Nope,” she says — “I’d still be me!” 🫣🤣
HEZETTE NIENABER
🧡 Get to Know: Hezette Nienaber🧡
📌Merchandise Officer📌
Meet Hezette, our multitasking powerhouse who keeps the Chapter looking good as merchandise officer. She also serves as a Safety officer and you’ll find her learning the ropes as a Trainee sweep! 😎
She started riding back in 2017 on Ben’s Honda Shadow Spirit 1100. She took it around the block , without warning him first!. 😂 One Saturday lesson later and she was hooked. Her first bike was the same model — a barn find from Ceres — and today she rides her pride and joy: a 115th Anniversary Street Glide 107, number 440 of 1800 made worldwide. Affectionately named Renesme, reflects her perfectly- steady, strong and full of personality.🏍️
If anyone could rock our Chapter merch, she says it’s Ruhan du Toit. 🎤🎵
Her favourite gear? Harley denim, boots, jacket, T-shirt, and of course, her Jacaranda colours with that proud Ladies of Harley patch. Harley addict for sure!👌🏻
And if she could create a new Merch Item…..it would be something stylish, practical and wearable- merchandise that every member would love to show off.👚👕🩳🥾👢
Fun fact: she swears Ben takes longer to get ready for a ride! Mostly because he is always looking for something he forgot🫣😅
😂 Her funniest moment? Falling over right behind the Lead at ROC in Alberton — still good for a laugh.😂
If ever stranded at a rally, she just needs one thing — a toothbrush! 🦷🪥 And has she come across something strange in her saddlebag- She is still waiting for that one!😂 Maybe it’s time🤔
Off the bike, she loves interior decorating, gardening, and restoring antique furniture- a creative soul on and off the road!🔆🌿
JULIAN JORDAAN
📌Get to Know📌: Julian Jordaan (aka James Dean)
📍Meet our Social Media Officer📍
The creative spark ✨⚡️behind all those birthday wishes, welcome cards and ride invitations you see on our pages!
At just 15 years old, Julian is not only our youngest member, but also one of the tallest, standing a proud 1.87 m tall! (Yes, he looks most of us straight over the helmet😝).
His love ❤️for bikes started early years , his very first word 🍼was “bike” 😄. By the age of 13, he had already convinced his dad to trade in his Kawasaki for their Harley Road King!
Julian’s Harley inspiration? None other than Elvis Presley. ( “ if that counts”😂 ) He was a Harley enthusiast and owned some of the rarest models. And of course, his dad -“probably supposed to say that,” he jokes.- 😜
This multi-talented young man is also a certified snake handler🐍, loves old-school rock ‘n roll and has been playing drums 🥁for almost ten years! His favourite subject at school is English, while Chemistry 🧪is something he just “survives.”
🏍️He’s been riding since age 11 on a 125cc bike. He has tried out dads Harley, though after a small “oops” at the Snowball Rally in 2024 (earning him Floater of the Month 😂) his dad’s Harley privileges were temporarily suspended.
Julian dreams of owning a black and turquoise Fat Boy with ape hangers, tassels and huge fishtail pipes. And of one day taking a dream ride through Africa, from Botswana all the way to Egypt!🌎An ambitious young man….inspired by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s Long Way Down.
His ultimate riding playlist 🎼includes classics from Dire Straits, Simon & Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac and Bob Dylan.
When he’s not working on chapter posts, Julian loves music, writing and playing the harmonica and drums.🎵🎶
In 10 years time , he sees himself working on a game lodge 🦁🦒in Africa or Australia. And of cause still living the adventure and riding his Harley every Sunday.🏍️
Keep an eye out for this rising star — our very own James Dean of H.O.G. Jacaranda! 🏍️🔥
LOIUS MURRAY

🏍️ Get to Know Our Membership Officer – Louis Murray! 🏍️

Meet Louis Murray, our Membership Officer, the man who keeps our Chapter family growing, smiling and committed!
📌Louis’ biking story started way back with a little 180 Honda and like many of us his Harley journey began in 2004 with a 883 Sporty (because who didn’t start there? 😄). From there he moved up to a Deluxe and then an Ultra Glide Ultra Classic. These days, he’s back on a beautiful 2016 Softail Deluxe. Usually joined by his trusty mascot , a Bull Terrier puppy soft toy named Spuds McKenzie, bought all the way back in Atlanta in 1987! 🐾
He always rides with his trusty riding bell 🔔and listens to Bethel Music or a country tune while riding🎼🎶
And if he could ride anywhere in the world …..it’d be the USA, no question. 🇺🇸
His proudest moment? The day he got his first Harley.
His most embarrassing? Reversing his brand-new Softail Deluxe into his BMW before its first ride. A “tail-light tragedy” that still gets mentioned to this day! 🤦‍♂️
Louis has clocked some serious miles, including a 2,000 km trip to Cape Town. He had a couch then, so seating was a breeze!
And when he’s not riding, he’s cheering on TV sports .⚽️🏀🥎🏉🏸
His friends would describe him as “full of nonsense, straight and honest” and we wouldn’t have it any other way!😀
If the Chapter ever had a mascot, Louis reckons it should be a soft toy in a rain suit . Something that perfectly reflects the fun, friendship and resilience that makes this Chapter what it is. 🧸
For Louis, being part of H.O.G. Jacaranda Chapter means everything. He loves the closeness, friendliness and good clean fun that makes our Chapter special. In his words: “we’re the only HOG chapter in South Africa worth joining. With well-planned rides, camaraderie and respect for all.” 💜🏍️

WYNAND JORDAAN
🖥️ 📌GET TO KNOW OUR WEBMASTER – WYNAND JORDAAN 🖥️📌
Keeping our online world running smoothly, meet the man behind the Chapter website. Wynand Jordaan, our ever-patient Webmaster and resident IT guru (and yes, he has already asked if you’ve tried switching it off and on again 😄).
Wynand’s biking story started early at just 15 years old in ‘97 , riding a Yamaha IT 175 that he rebuilt himself after buying it in pieces at age 13. These days he cruises on his Road King (or should we say Queen), fondly named “The Iron Maiden” ,feisty, fast, and flippen amazing! 🏍️🎉
If his queen bike could talk, she would probably say, “Wynand, I love you… but why are you so heavy?” 🤣
If Wynand ever built a website just for his bike, the tagline would proudly read: #RideMe 🏍️
When he needs to clear his head from too much screen time, he literally rides to the sound of silence. 🤫🤫
Though if he had too choose some music to listen to it would be anything from Rammstein to Post Malone and even Jelly Roll playing through his helmet speakers.🎼🎶🎵
If his computer could talk it would probably sigh, “I’m tired, boss…” in the voice of John from the movie Green Mile😂👨‍💻
And unlike most night owls, this one runs on rooibos tea, not caffeine!🫖
A fun fact most don’t know? Wynand holds a skipper’s license for ocean sailing, which ties in perfectly with his bucket list dream to bike or sail around the world someday.🌎
When he’s not tinkering with tech or throttling down the open road, you’ll find him gaming or spending quality time with family.🎮👭👬
And his life motto, borrowed from Ted Lasso, says it all:
“Be curious, not judgmental.”
A reminder to ask questions, understand others and keep an open heart, both on and off the bike.
